The Experience

The Husky Bot will be your guide. It'll assign teams, keep score, and trigger the end of the tournament. Just make sure you join the Main Lobby voice call in the Discord channel.

1. Join the Voice Call "Main Lobby" on Discord

Everyone hangs out here between games.

2. Mark Your Status

You're "Ready" by default. Use /set-status idle to voluntarily sit out (or tell someone else to mark your status for you).

Players who sit out for a game get automatic priority for the next game. Grab a beverage, watch the stream, fix your controls, etc.

3. Teams Are Shuffled

Husky Bot creates balanced 4v4 teams from the pool of ready players (using net flag differential).

If there are more than 8 ready players, some will randomly sit out.

4. Breakout Channels

Husky Bot gives each team a name and moves each team into a private voice channel.

5. Strategize

Teams have a few moments to talk strategy before the game starts.

6. Play the Game

Coordinate flag runs, call out enemies, avoid spawn traps, and work together!

7. Return to Lobby

After the match, everyone is automatically moved back to the main call.

8. Leaderboard Updates

Husky Bot will post the current standings then begin the next shuffle.

9. The Homestretch

In the final half-hour, the top 2 ready players become Homestretch Captains, automatically playing the final 3 games on opposite teams. Scores stay live — besides the Homestretch Captains, nothing's locked in.

Your teammates change. Your mission doesn't.

Each flag your team captures adds to your score.

Each flag the enemy captures subtracts from it.

Stack wins. Minimize losses.

Scoring

Only the final game score matters on the leaderboard. Play to win, not to pad stats.

Volunteers Needed

Xbox App Authenticators

Need 3-4! Very easy.

Due to how Husky Bot collects stats (using a uhhh non-documented Halo API), we need ~3 people to register their gamertag for stat collection.

Requirements:

  • Must attend the entire event (8 PM - 12 AM)
  • Let G know in advance. You need to be able to sign into your Xbox Live account and click a few links to auth the Husky Bot.

Why: The Halo API only shows game history for authenticated accounts. Since we're shuffling teams every game, we need at least one authenticated player actively playing in each match to ensure the stats for all players are captured.

Streamers

Need 2 or 3!

If you can stream your gameplay (on any platform) without messing up your setup, please do! G will attempt to use OBS to switch between available streams on twitch.tv/husky-holiday.

  • Stream your gameplay
  • Tell us in Discord where you're streaming
  • G will attempt to pull your feed into the main broadcast
  • (If you want to take over this whole streaming operation, please do)

Good Sportsmen

All players needed!

Enthusiastic people needed to:

  • Promote healthy competition
  • Rise to the challenge on all of your teams
  • Make everyone feel welcome
  • React to big plays, even when you're on the wrong side
  • Embrace the luck that comes with the game mode
  • Keep energy high
  • Check your ego. This is supposed to be fun, damn it!

Good sports FTW!

Leave the salt on the popcorn.

FAQ

Do I need to be good at Halo to join?

Nope! This is basically just an excuse to get together and game. The team balancing system will TRY to create fair matchups (based on each player's flag differential score), but the game mode is so chaotic that every player will be a part of big moments.

What if I need to take a break?

Use /set-status idle in the Discord chat and you'll be skipped in the next shuffle. Mark yourself ready when you want back in. Or just tell G.

Can I join late or leave early?

Yes! Come and go as you please. Just play at least 5 games to qualify for prizes.

How do I install Halo Infinite?

On Xbox: Press the Xbox button, go to the Store, search for "Halo Infinite," and download it (it's free).

On PC: Download it for free from Steam or the Xbox App.

Important: Sign in at least a day early to download any updates if you haven't played in a while.

How do I join the Discord?

On PC: Download Discord from discord.com/download, install it, create an account (or sign in), and join our server at discord.gg/SuCNdEVJbf.

On Xbox: Discord is already built in! Download the Xbox app on your phone, go to Settings → Account → Linked social accounts → Link Discord. Then join our server at discord.gg/SuCNdEVJbf on your phone. Open Discord on your Xbox and our server will appear.

Tip: You can join a Discord voice call just like you're joining an Xbox Party. Join the "Main Lobby" channel and Husky Bot will handle the rest.

Why aren't we playing Halo 5 Husky Raid?

We all know that H5 Husky is peak Husky. The req-based weapons, the maps, the public API...

But Halo Infinite has a few key advantages:

  • It's cross-platform (Xbox + PC)
  • It's free to play
  • Chan doesn't have to remember the complicated Halo 5 controls

Can I suggest a different map, or changes to the tournament format?

Sure! A few details are likely to change as we get closer to the event. And maps are totally up for debate still. But the Husky Bot is nearly ready -- so the earlier you make a suggestion, the more likely we can accomplish it.

I'm busy. Do I need to commit in advance to play in the tournament?

Not exactly, but early commitments help with planning, and they may or may not come with a bonus gift. And definitely install/update the game in advance to avoid annoyance on tournament day.

Can I practice somewhere?

I think there's a casual playlist on Halo Infinite that has Husky Raid games in it. Action Sack or something?

But the Husky Bot does need to be tested. So if there's interest, G will plan a practice session!
